C.E.O.s Ride to Fight Cancer

The C.E.O. Caucus Ride is in its fourth year and over one hundred persons have registered for the charity event on Saturday. Since 2016, C.E.O.s in various government ministries have organized a bike ride to raise funds to fight cancer. This year, the ride is being celebrated under the theme ‘Stronger Together’ with a goal to raise fifty thousand dollars. On Saturday, participants will gather at mile twenty-four on the George Price Highway for a short opening ceremony at six and the ride kicks off at six-fifteen and ends in Belmopan. C.E.O. Ruth Meighan will be riding on Saturday and she wants you to join her and the other C.E.O.s for a good cause.

“We have a lot of people in Belize who seek medical attention for cancer and at times it is very difficult. So, what we came up with was the initiative to try to raise funds to help cancer centers across the country. Our target each year is to get fifty-thousand dollars so that we could contribute to these centers to assist in medical treatment or other activities that they have to do.”

“So, you do this through a ride. Talk to us about where this starts from and how far it goes?”

Ruth Meighan

“It starts from mile twenty-five and it goes to Belmopan and we end at the Agriculture show grounds. Anyone who is interested can come and join us. What we have done is to include the cycling association as a partner and they support us with this initiative also along with the Government of Belize and we have the Special Envoy. It is not a race. It is a slow ride from mile twenty-five to Belmopan. Of course, we have our little inside challenges about who will make it all the way. But it is really a fun ride; slow to Belmopan. So, what we are trying to do this year is keep everybody together instead of having little groups because that makes it a little bit difficult for the commuting public.”

There will be security and traffic support on the highway for riders. If you can’t make it out to the ride on Saturday, you can make a deposit at the treasury department to account number C-eight-zero C.E.O. Caucus Cancer Initiative.
