There was a backup of traffic earlier this morning on Youth for the Future Drive in Belize City; police had cordoned off its intersection with Ebony Street.  It was the scene of yet another homicide in the streets of south side Belize City where in the past three days; three persons have lost their lives to gun violence. The body of Lindon Baldwin was discovered to the rear of this corner lot. Police say he was along with two men under this house when one of them opened fire on him. The discovery was made just after seven a.m.

Emma Baldwin, Sister of Deceased

The family was unable to access the area and stood watch several houses away as the body of their loved one was covered in a sheet, placed in the pan of a police pickup truck and transported to the morgue at the K.H.M.H. where it awaits a post-mortem exam. According to his sister, Emma Baldwin, her brother was to turn twenty-three later this month, but his life was cut short sometime on Monday night. Residents say they heard up to seven blasts but thought no one was injured.

“From what we understand, shots were fired last night. Did you hear them? Did you know it was your brother being attacked?”

Emma Baldwin

“We never hear nothing. The young lady from the next side, the neighbour say she heard about seven or six shots, but we noh hear nothing but we close. Ih say dehn hear the gunshot and they run out, but didn’t see anybody. When we gone out there this morning dehn tell we that because we neva know nothing. Ih two hand mi deh over ih chest like this.
