Cayo District Votes YES to the I.C.J.

Michel Chebat

There were surprises in the Cayo District. Cayo South constituency, which is represented by the P.U.P.’s Julius Espat who is a staunch NO supporter, voted YES.  If that was unexpected, it was also so for the border community in Benque Viejo del Carmen, a U.D.P. stronghold. There, in Cayo West, there was a resounding NO as did Cayo North.  But in Cayo Central, Belmopan and Cayo North East, the YES vote prevailed.

Michel Chebat, P.U.P. Standard Bearer, Cayo North

“We take it very seriously. We take every opportunity at the poll to be a very serious one and we try to share information and garner support for the NO. It is not a mystery, I have been saying no from the beginning and we have been actively trying to get that NO vote out.”

“What is nice about it, I think that even though we are supporting a side here, that the Belizean people seem to be coming out and not fleeing to either red or blue. They seem to have made up t their mind. There is a constant flow of people which I think I a good representation of Belizeans involved of this process taking place today.”

So those were some of the referendum results and we’ll have a deeper look on Friday
