UDP and PUP Quarrel Over ICJ Banners

An argument between the P.U.P. and U.D.P. over I.C.J. banners was sparked on social media this morning. The U.D.P., on its Facebook page, posted a picture of a banner hung in the Cayo North constituency. The banner reads “In Cayo North, Party Above Country, Say no to the ICJ.” The U.D.P. said “This is so shameful. Belizeans should never be thinking of party over country. Tomorrow the people must reject party politics and vote what is best for Belize.” While the banner is blue and white, the People’s United Party says that the banner is not theirs. In fact, the P.U.P., in a release, strongly condemned the mischievous act by certain individuals in the Cayo North constituency to try and mislead voters by printing and erecting a blue and white street banner. In a statement issued earlier by the P.U.P. Cayo North Committee, Standard Bearer Michel Chebat and his Executive Committee rejected the banner and appealed to those individuals to refrain from trying to mislead voters and instead to educate them properly.
