2 Women are Kidnapped, Bound and Robbed

Joseph Myvett

There is a frightening ordeal to report on tonight involving the kidnapping of a pair of women from Belize City. Cinthia ‘Catherine’ Ulloa and Kristie Mejia were hanging out near Mejia’s house at mile one and a half on the George Price Highway when they were ambushed by three men, one wielding a gun. They were forced into the rear of a land cruiser, the property of Ulloa’s common-law husband, and taken to a bushy area in the outskirts of Belmopan on the Hummingbird Highway. There, they were gagged and bound by the hands and feet, before the men escaped in the land cruiser and a white car. Ulloa’s shirt was ripped from her body to tie them up. The women managed to untie themselves and after making it to the highway, they were assisted by police officers to the station. Statements were then recorded in Belize City following the traumatic experience. Today, at its weekly press brief, ACP Joseph Myvett shared what police knows at this time.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Those persons directed that they get in the back of the vehicle and were driven to an area on the Hummingbird Highway just outside Armenia Village where they were later found by police shortly after midnight on the said Tuesday. So far, police have not recovered the vehicle and we are investigating this matter.”

“Sir this kidnapping and subsequent theft of the vehicle, has it been determined if any belongings from the females were taken during this incident?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Other than the vehicle, I cannot say whether or not any other personal effects were taken from them.”

Several items were stolen from the women including cash and other personal effects. Police estimate that the value of the property lost is in the range of seventy-six thousand dollars.  News Five understands that there is conflicting information given by one of the females, but police are following several leads into the kidnapping and theft of the vehicle.
