Elections & Boundaries Clears Up Misprinted Voters IDs

Josephine Tamai

The issue of errors being made during the printing of voters IDs was also raised during today’s press brief.  Those mistakes were being attributed to the rush to meet the initial April tenth deadline.  According to Tamai, the number of incorrect cards is minimal when compared to the number of cards that were properly printed.  The matter, she says, has since been corrected.

Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer

“Those have been rectified.  As a matter of fact, I want to encourage the public that when you go in to pick up your ID cards, please check the information on them.  We realized that we had thousands and thousands of cards that are being printed.  Yes, there may be errors and some that people might believe was an error on the Elections and Boundaries’ part.  Yes, I will not sit here and pretend that we did not have any errors, but also sometimes the source documents that the person provides has on maybe a different year, sometimes a different day and we have to go by those.  So the person might be saying but this is not my dates, but when you check the actual documentation that they provided, that is their actual date of birth.  Again, yes I know we had a few issues when it comes to signatures, but I will tell you, for the thousands and thousands that we did, we will hear about the ten, fifteen that mistakes are made, but the others, basically, they’re correct.”
