P.U.P. says Guatemala Breaking International Law

Henry Charles Usher

So while that plays out, the People’s United Party has reacted to the ministry’s release on the incident at the Sarstoon. Party chairman, Henry Charles Usher, told News Five that it not only shows Guatemala’s aggression, but shows the GAF violating international law.

Henry Charles Usher, Chairman, P.U.P.

“Again, it’s just another case in violation of our territorial integrity, in violation of our sovereignty. It’s really a violation of international law and it goes way beyond the Ministry of National Security just writing these protest notes or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs just writing these diplomatic, protest notes. Something has to be done about it and we have been saying this for years. Since the honorable John Briceño has become leader in 2016 we sat down with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and we said listen, let us put in place a Sarstoon protocol. Let us have this in place so that we know how we are going to operate down there. As you said, it is getting worse and worse. Now they are actually blocking Belizeans from entering our sides. As you know if there is a waterway between two countries there must be equal access. You can’t block a country’s nationals from entering that waterway and we believe that this is a serious violation of our national rights, it is a violation of international law and certainly an aggressive act on the part of Guatemala.”
