P.U.P. is I.C.J. Referendum Ready

Henry Charles Usher

While we had the P.U.P. Chairman, he was asked about the party’s preparedness for the upcoming I.C.J. referendum. May eighth is twelve days away and it will be a battle of mobilization between the two major political parties which have taken opposing positions in what should have been a non-political issue. Usher says that the Opposition is prepared to mobilize its supporters and get voters to the polling stations.

Henry Charles Usher, Chairman, P.U.P.

“We are ready if the referendum will be held on that day and I have to make this absolutely clear the right of the Belize people to go to a referendum is a right that is enshrined in law. Nobody can give you that right; nobody can take away that right. So all this talk of the government side that the P.U.P. is trying to frustrate the people from going that is absolutely nonsense. In terms of readiness, yes if we have to go to a referendum on that day we are getting people in  place in terms of getting the, having the ability to get the voters to the polling stations because I think that is important. The voters need to be able to exercise that right, to go to the polling station that is a free, open and transparent process. We are all going to monitor that to make that it happens.”

“What is also important is money, cash. Has the P.U.P. located its funding?”

Henry Charles Usher

“Well what is more important is that you get all of those logistics in place, the transportation, the voters to be and so on. That is what we have to focus on going in election day or in this case referendum day.”
