Race Commissaires to Discuss HSCCC Issues and Wasani Castro’s Case

A video posted on social media shows cyclist Wasani Castro being pulled by a pickup truck during this year’s Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic. The video has caused quite a stir in the cycling community and many are calling for Castro, who placed twelfth overall, to be disqualified and penalized for allegedly cheating. If you take a closer look at the video, you will see someone in the vehicle rubbing Castro’s left leg. News Five was informed that Castro’s explanation for holding onto the vehicle was to receive medical attention.  The son of the NEMO Minister reportedly was involved in the pile-up which occurred just outside of Belmopan. We were told that if a cyclist is involved in an accident or crash during a race, that athlete may be granted medical attention. It allows Castro to hold on for a period of up to a minute while he was being treated. Chief Commissaire, Michael Arthurs, told News Five that the race commissaries will be meeting late this evening to discuss all issues relating to the race and Castro’s case. The results of that meeting are expected to be shared immediately after by the Cycling Federation of Belize.
