There was further loss of life. A resident of Valley of Peace perished in a hit and run accident on Saturday night. Andruse Choc lost his life in the area of La Democracia on the George Price Highway. His family says he was speaking to his wife by phone when he was knocked down by a vehicle whose driver did not stop. Around six-thirty-on Saturday night, thirty-nine-year-old Andruse Choc was killed in a hit and run near his worksite on the George Price Highway just outside the La Democracia Village. The father of five worked as a watchman at the B.T.L. Tower at mile thirty on the highway. According to his younger brother Salmon Choc, Andruse was speaking to his wife over the phone when the driver of a vehicle knocked him down and didn’t stop to render assistance.

“Your brother explained to you what he saw?”

Salmon Choc

“Well actually my bredda neva saw it. He just saw my brother laying down on the highway already dead. My next bredda deh inside the booth, taking a rest, not knowing that his next bredda is already dead on the highway.”

But there are conflicting reports saying that Andruse was along with his brother returning to their posting at mile thirty on the Philip Goldson Highway when he was struck by the vehicle. The brothers were reportedly drinking at a nearby shop in the Mahogany Heights community. While the family could not confirm this, police say that’s the report they got.

“Not knowing if he left the compound or nothing; ih just heard that lotta vehicle were making a lot of noise and he come out. When he come out, ih saw his brother laying on the highway. On the spot he was killed.”

ACP Marco Vidal, Commander of Operations, BPD

“The latter than you mentioned is what we have…that he was walking along with his brother when a vehicle hit him and then fled the scene. What we know is that they were coming from the direction of Belmopan to La Democracia so it would have been probably from behind.”

Marco Vidal

Based on the debris found on the scene, ACP Vidal says that investigators are currently looking for a blue in colour Honda vehicle, which is believed was involved in the incident.

ACP Marco Vidal

“We have so far sent out an all formation in relation to a possible description given the debris so police are looking for a particular vehicle in that regard; a Honda vehicle that we suspect was involved in that fatal accident.”
