Charges Dropped Against Man Accused of Robbing His Friend

Darell Gray

Turning to the courts…A former security guard is happily home tonight after he had already been remanded to prison for an incident that purportedly occurred before the Easter holidays. The resident of the Lords Bank area, Darell Gray was wrongly accused of holding up a city man and allegedly robbing him of his cell-phone, ring and cash. After being hospitalized for some days, Gray was finally arraigned today on a charge of robbery with a firearm. The incident was said to have occurred on April sixteenth, when he was accused of stealing from his friend, Harry Montero. Gray denied the allegations and told the court he had been beaten by police to talk about a robbery he had no knowledge of. But about half hour after his arraignment, Montero withdrew the charges.  Montero told Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer that he had been shot and when he refused to tell the police who shot him, they beat him up and forced him to give a statement against his friend.  He then requested no court action and Gray was free to go.
