Joshua Gallego is Gunned Down on North Creek

Joshua Gallego

Twenty-six-year-old Joshua Gallego was shot on Thursday afternoon; hours later, he succumbed at the K.H.M.H.  While the matter was under investigation, the question is if Gallego’s past had caught up with him. A lone gunman inside a vehicle fired at Gallego as he dropped his girlfriend in the North Creek area. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports on the latest murder in the City.

Is the shooting death of twenty-six-year-old Joshua Gallego related to an incident back in November 2018 for which he was charged with wounding and deadly means of harm?  It’s one of several angles investigators are looking at since Gallego was fatally attacked on Thursday afternoon in the vicinity of North Creek.  News Five understands that he was in the neighborhood dropping off his common-law wife and their baby when another vehicle emerged on the scene.  Someone from inside the unidentified vehicle took aim at Gallego and fired multiple shots in his direction, hitting him in the chest and neck.

In November of last year, the Raccoon Street resident was arrested and charged following a shooting incident a few blocks away which resulted in Stephan Tablada being shot in the right calf.  It was not clear at the time whether both incidents are related, but here’s what police told us in the wake of that violent occurrence.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City

“Joshua Gallego, a twenty-five-year-old resident of Raccoon Street Extension, he was charged for wounding and use of deadly means of harm.  He was charged on the twentieth of November.”

“Is this related to the previous shooting at that same address, of a relative of Mister Tablada?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“No, not at this point.”

“Is there some gang rivalry or personal rivalry?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“We do know that there has to be some tension in the area and we are addressing it.”

Gallego, it appears, was pursued by his assailants into the area sometime around two p.m., where he was blindsided by the gunman.  Despite being rushed to the K.H.M.H. for emergency medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.

On January twenty-sixth, Johvanney Tablada was shot and killed at a party that was being held at his girlfriend’s home on Faber’s Road.  At the time of his murder, police were also investigating the angle that Tablada may have been executed as a result of a previous altercation at the now defunct Pier One Bar and Grill.  Could it have been Gallego’s alleged involvement in that incident that may have caught up with him? Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo spoke on those leads at the time of Tablada’s murder.

“There are several things that we are following up.  We have heard the theory of a female being involved.  We are also hearing about the incident at Pier One and another incident.  So we are following the three incidents that it is being rumored around.”

Police have not been able to ascertain a motive for the hit on Gallego, nor have they been able to make an arrest in this latest homicide. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
