Murder Trial of Patrick Castillo Concludes

Patrick Castillo

The murder trial of Patrick Castillo, who was charged with the murder of his stepson Yontan Maderos, ended today in the court of Justice Colin Williams. Castillo now awaits a ruling as to whether or not he acted in self-defense or if it was cold-blooded murder when he chopped up Maderos at their Kut Avenue home on April first, 2015.  In the trial by judge without jury, the prosecution was represented by Crown Counsel, Porsha Staine Ferguson. Evidence against Castillo was that when Maderos came home intoxicated, he stepped on the foot of his stepsister, Patricia, who is the daughter of Castillo. Even though Maderos apologized, she complained to her father.  Castillo allegedly armed himself with a machete and attacked Maderos, who was cursing him.  Castillo told the court he acted in self-defense and that he told the children to leave the room and go to sleep downstairs while he and his biological daughter remained watching TV. That is when his stepson stormed into the house, cursed him and was told to leave the house.  Maderos refused and the chopping occurred.  His story differed in some ways from the crown’s version.  Castillo called his daughter Patricia to testify and she corroborated his version of events. The post-mortem done on Madero confirmed that he died from a chop wound to his neck.
