Casting Call for Miss Universe Belize 2019

The Miss Universe Belize Organization is looking for the next beauty ambassador to represent the Jewel on the international stage. Last December, twenty-seven-year-old Jenelli Frazer graced the stage in Bangkok, Thailand, making Belize proud after its 2016 bout with Dangriga beauty, Rebecca Rath. But it’s coming around to that time again as the search commences for Frazer’s successor. So on Saturday, between ten a.m. and two p.m. at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts, young ladies between the ages of eighteen and twenty-eight, who hold a Belizean passport, have never been married or had a child, can audition for the national pageant, which will be aired live once again right here on Channel Five. Today, we caught up with National Director Romeo Escobar to find out more.

“What we are looking for is someone who has a lot of confidence and feel like they are the best representative from the country to represent us here and also internationally. Every person has their story; their backgrounds. That’s not necessarily true, but we want to encourage them to have a personality because at the end of the day, you can have a great story, but if you don’t have confidence and you don’t have the personality to back that story, it doesn’t matter. Miss Universe is looking for someone who is vibrant, can light a room when she walks in, who can represent the entire universe. So it is lot more than just your back story; it’s how you carry yourself and your inner confidence.”

“We had a run last year under the new management. Talk to us about the success that we had last year and how that will take us through this one”

Romeo Escobar

“Last year, we had our reigning queen. We took her to L.A.; we exposed her like no other Miss Belize has been exposed before. We put her on television; she went to the Miss Universe headquarters, met with the organization there.  She met Steve Harvey, the host of Miss Universe prior to the pageant; she is the only one to do that besides Miss U.S.A.  She went to L.A. Fashion week; she did photo shoots out there. So I think the amount of exposure that we were able to give her prior to Miss Universe was pretty extensive and it only gets bigger from this point forward. One thing. We need to have the entire country back her. It doesn’t matter who wins; Miss Universe is looking for a girl who is supported by her country. If we don’t have that, they are not going to look at us. Why do you think that countries like Philippines and Venezuela always do well? Besides preparation of course, they have the entire country behind them and that’s what I am asking for this year. Who knows who is going to win, but whoever it is, we have to support her. We have to show Miss Universe and the world that we are excited and behind our queen.”
