Before the Court Again; Primrose Gabourel and Dion Zabaneh

For more than a month, Primrose Gabourel and her son, Dion Zabaneh, have been in and out of court regarding a parcel of land in the Caribbean Shores area of Belize City. Well, there was another court appearance today; the mother did not attend due to her illness, but her son did and was read a total of six charges. Primrose Gabourel’s attorney, Emil Arguelles, gave a not guilty plea on her behalf.  They are charged with failure to sign an environment compliance plan and obtain environmental clearance and four counts of failure to comply with oral instructions given by a designated D.O.E. officer in January. Zabaneh was charged alone with one count of assault of an officer in the conduct of his duties. He also took a not guilty plea on the charges. Prior to today’s charges, Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford struck out and denied a submission made by attorney Arguelles asking the court not to have his clients enter a plea since they have had already been read the charges. But Senior Magistrate Ford did not agree and those charges were read to them and the matter has been adjourned for May twenty-third. The Department of the Environment has taken Gabourel and Zabaneh to court on four different occasions over parcel 4670, located in the Seashore area of Belize City. D.O.E. claims the duo failed to adhere to stop orders and continued to develop on the land in dispute.
