Carmelita Resident Shot While Walking in Back-a-Town

Wilfredo Ferrufino

There was gun violence over the weekend in Belize City, both incidents in proximity of each other and in a well-known gang territory. It started as early as Friday night on Sarstoon Street; a Carmelita resident remains in critical condition tonight at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was shot to the face. Why Oswald Warrior was walking in Back-a-Town gang territory is unknown at this time, but police say that around seven-fifteen p.m., he was approached by a gunman who fired a single gunshot at him. Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino from the Crimes Investigation Branch shares additional details on the investigation so far.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, CIB, Belize City

“Police were called on Sarstoon Street where on arrival they observed a male who was identified as Oswald Warrior suffering from a gunshot wound to the left side of the cheek. He was transported to the hospital where he remains in a critical condition. From what police gathered so far, Mister Warrior was walking on the street when he was approached by a single gunman who fired a single shot causing the injury.”

“As far as we know, this is the Back-a-Town area. As far as you know, is there any gang-related motive?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“We have nothing to indicate that at this point.”

“Sir, in the report, it stated that he lived in Carmelita; has it been established what he was doing in Belize City?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“Yes, we do know that he is from Carmelita; that was his address given. We don’t know what was his intention pr his business here in the city.”
