Investigations Continue into Human Remains Found in Los Lagos

Are the human remains found in the dried up lagoon behind the Los Lagos community that of eighty-three-year-old Hubert Richards? On April fourth, just before one p.m., human bones of an elder person were discovered scattered in a twenty feet diameter. Police also discovered a denture, a pair of black silk socks, and a gray t-shirt. Since then, a medical officer confirmed that the skeletal remains are that of a human; the skull, however, has not been recovered. Police have been working with the Richards’ family to acquire DNA samples and additional evidence to determine who the remains belong to.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, CIB, Belize City

“The doctor was taken on scene and he did a preliminary check on the skeletal remains and it was confirmed that it was human. At this point the only person that comes to mind is one Mister Hubert Richards who had gone missing some eighteen months ago. He would be the only person that it is believed it could be that of his remains.  The doctor did some examination on scene and there was nothing to indicate that there was any trauma at that point; however, the remains were taken to do more examinations on it. DNA swab has been taken from family members and we will see what comes up out of that.”

“Will you show the dentures that were found on the scene to Mister Hubert’s family being that he also had those as well?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“Of course. I believe that that was done by the CIB personnel as well. I do not have any information from the family at this point, but I know that should have been done.”

Back on March fifteenth, a human skull belonging to a male person between the ages of twenty and thirty was discovered in proximity to the most recent find.
