Interpol says Argentinean Fugitive Hiding in Belize

Alberto Samid

Interpol says Argentinean fugitive, seventy-one-year-old Alberto Samid is hiding in Belize. International Criminal Police Organization issued a red alert for the Samid who is wanted in Argentina for tax evasion. Investigators believe that Samid escaped the country through Paraguay, later flew to Panama before making his way to Belize which does not share an extradition treaty with Argentina.  Samid, who is nicknamed “King of the Flesh,” has built a livestock producing empire and is accused of creating illegal associations to evade taxes. The criminal case began in 1996 with a complaint from the General Tax Directorate and last week prosecutors requested that Samid be sentenced to six years and six months in prison. In the interviews he gave from the place where he was hiding, Samid reported that the representative of the Public Prosecutor had asked him for a million dollars to exculpate him. According to the Interpol red alert, Samid is considered dangerous. He is a political affiliate of Argentinean’s Justicialist Party. He says the government there is targeting him and predicts that President Mauricio Macri’s administration will fall in six months.
