Eamon Courtenay Admonishes Lisa for Representing G.O.B.

Eamon Courtenay

Due to the volume of news on Wednesday, we didn’t cover the following matter, which involves attorney Lisa Shoman.  Her future of attorney as a member of the People’s United Party has been queried ever since she decided to represent the Government in a case involving the holding of the I.C.J. referendum on April tenth. Shoman, who has served in various capacities under the P.U.P., including as Foreign Minister, was initially against going to the I.C.J. for resolution of the Belize/Guatemala territorial dispute, unless certain conditions were met beforehand.  The cracks began to show when she signed on a declaration in support of a Yes vote and more recently she turned attorney for the Government thus going against the grain of a party position. That, in the eyes of her colleagues in the P.U.P., is tantamount to crossing the floor and Senior Counsel Eamon Courtenay, who represents the opposition, didn’t mince words in his admonition of his fellow former foreign minister.

Eamon Courtenay, P.U.P. Attorney

“It seems to me very clear, she has made common cause with the U.D.P., she is working with the U.D.P., she is being paid by the U.D.P., she is for the U.D.P. There are consequences for your decisions and your actions.  That’s all I’m going to say about Ms. Shoman.”

John Briceño, Party Leader, P.U.P.

“Well I think that Senior Counsel Lisa Shoman has made her decision.  She decided that she wants to work for the U.D.P. and we have to respect that.”
