Murders Down for 1st Quarter of 2019

Chester Williams

Since the beginning of the year to the end of March, there have been thirty-one murders recorded across the country. According to the Ministry of National Security, the Belize Police Department recorded the ‘lowest level of murders for the first quarter of a year since 2012.’  There were fifteen murders less for the first quarter of this year compared to 2012 and nine less compared to 2017. Commissioner Chester Williams was asked what made this possible:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Inclusiveness, consistency, perseverance, and commitment not only on my part by on the part of the rank and file of the department who are out there on a daily basis ensuring that our mandate is fulfilled. I may be the architect of the policing strategy but I am not the executioner and so the credit goes to those persons who execute the strategy on the streets on a daily basis. So I commend my lower ranks for the good work that they have and continue to do on a daily basis to make Belize a safer place.”
