Police Department to Crack Down on Public Drinking

Chester Williams

The police department is focusing more on preventing deaths caused by excessive drinking. But for the department to be successful in its endeavour, the root causes must be addressed. ComPol Williams says that there are plans to curb public drinking, amend the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act and crack down on establishments that violate the act.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“We have seen a number of deaths this year emanating from the consumption of alcohol and so we really and truly have to find a way how we can deal with this plaguing issue. It is sad to see that we live in a country where so many people are losing their lives every week due to alcohol. I think that what we need to do is to step up the campaign and to see how we can collaborate more closely with the intoxicating liquor licensing board to b e able to work with us to control to some extent the sale of alcohol. Yes we will be proposing some amendments to the Intoxicating Liquor License Act to the cabinet. We will seek the approval to assist us in terms of having more control over the granting of liquor license to different establishment because truth be told there are many establishments out there that have license that they are not qualified to have. We have to find away to address those issues. We must also focus more heavily in preventing public drinking. That is a serious issue and to look at those establishments that are selling alcohol against the conditions and requirements of their license.”
