M.O.E. says “Infrastructure and Maintenance” are Commitments of the Catholic Management

On Wednesday we shared the good news that Holy Angels is getting some help. The school still needs more support to get things in order. And as you heard, the local catholic manager Rodolfo Garcia said it is not his responsibility. Well, today the Minister of Education debunked the priest’s claim. Minister Patrick Faber says that infrastructure falls directly under the responsibility of the management. He says that while the Ministry of Education stands ready to assist the school, the management must do its part.

“We are in a partnership and the Ministry’s or the Government’s role in that partnership is primarily to provide a hundred percent salaries to the primary school teachers. The commitments of the management, the churches in that regard are for the infrastructure and other things that are needed. Of course these schools are allowed to charge very small fees so that they are able to do their everyday running. But for many years, the government has had to step in and help. We do this through the SIF, and other donor agencies. We have been helped by the US Military, the Taiwanese, the Japanese and other entities that give us infrastructural support from time to time. But I repeat, the primary role to support infrastructure is not that of the Ministry. What I have long said is that the Ministry is prepared to help. When I spoke win the House on Monday, I said that the Ministry is willing to give some support to the initiative.”
