Where is England in All of This? England is in England

One of the most repeated questions relating to Guatemala’s claim over Belize has to do with the historical role of England and future intervention. Some feel that Belize inherited the claim from England and as such, England and Guatemala should resolve the dispute between themselves. So today when Ambassador Assad Shoman was asked about it, he gave a very candid answer.

“Where is England in all of this?”

Assad Shoman, Citizens for the Defence of Sovereignty

“England is in England. Remember that this was a colony. You know what is a colony is? You know what England did here in the beginning? Slaves. You know why we are here? Because England enslaved African people. England did that and brought slaves to this country. England oppressed the people of this country. England did not allow workers to have rights in this country. Union could not exist when England ruled this country. Don’t think that England is a saint or god that will come and save us. We were slaves of England. We became independent in 1981. You think England care anything for yourself. They can’t handle their own problems right now with the BREXIT what they caused. So please don’t think that England is a mommy that will come and save you. You don’t have any milk to get from them. None.”
