Special Envoy Reacts to Social Media Comments on her Office

Kim Simplis Barrow

Following the release of sex tape of news anchor Indira Craig and the video of a student in uniform performing oral sex, there was a release issued by the Office of the Special Envoy for Women and Children condemning the violation of a person’s privacy. In many quarters, Kim Simplis Barrow came under fire for being quiet on a number of other instances where privacy had been breached, including the case of a teacher in Orange Walk whose nude photographs were disseminated without her consent. Today, the media asked Simplis Barrow to comment on the reaction on social media. Here’s what she had to say.

Kim Simplis Barrow, Special Envoy for Women and Children

“My office addresses issues and that’s really all I would want to say about it. My office addresses issues and that’s how we operate.”

“They were saying that when videos of children came out, your office remain silent.”

“Do you think as media houses, do you really…is this the first time you’ve interviewed me on issues of nudes and abuse? No right? The cameraman is saying no. He knows. My thing is as individuals, we know what we do and there are certain issues that must be addressed in certain manner. My press release, if you noted, made no mention of any name. It was a generic press release.”
