Body of Enrique Magana found

Story PictureHe was last seen leaving his home in San Joaquin Village in Corozal after a domestic dispute on the morning of March twenty-eighth. And on Saturday, the remains of forty-six year old taxi-man and former Belize City engineer, Ricardo Enrique Magana, were found. Five weeks after his disappearance, Magana’s body was found some two hundred yards north of a farm on the Consejo Road where his van was discovered. Today, Magana’s mother, Cerbula, visited our studios saying that a private investigator the family hired two weeks ago discovered her son’s already decomposed body. A post mortem examination at the site could not determine what caused Magana’s death but the grieving mother says she feels that foul play was involved.

Cerbula ‘Silvia’ Magana, Mother of Deceased
“He was found by the investigator Marlon Skeen. We hired him two weeks and the first day—the days before he was investigating and he asked for two days to do the search. And the first day of searching he found the body in half an hour.”

“I know his vehicle was found on the Consejo Road, so where was the body found?”

Cerbula Magana
“The body was found to my belief it cannot have more than the distance of a one hundred and twenty feet from the car to the spot. But he was decomposed already so they couldn’t say what but him to the end.”

Duane Moody
“Do you suspect maybe that foul play occurred in the disappearance of your son and now finding him dead?”

Cerbula Magana
“Well, I have different opinions about him and it come to me that if we couldn’t find him at the beginning around that area, I don’t know–I cannot explain how he got there after.”

When News Five contacted Inspector James Moreira of the Corozal Town Police Station, he said they did not suspect foul play and that the case is being treated as a suicide. The day Magana’s vehicle was discovered, police found empty packets for a quantity of pain killers outside his vehicle. Magana had been on the medication for some time prior to his disappearance.
