Customer shot during attempted robbery at Western Union

Story PictureThe threat of the H-One-N-One flu did not keep robbers off the streets and three attempted to jack the Western Union Office located on Regent Street on Saturday. Around eleven a.m., the trio, wearing rags over their faces and armed with guns, busted into the busy money transfer establishment. The bandits were stopped on their tracks by an alert security guard, a crossfire ensued and one of twelve patrons conducting business was wounded by gun fire. News Five spoke with the security officer who warded off the would-be thieves.

Voice of Security Guard: Came in contact with thieves
“About three guys came in with a blue rag over their face and they come in and they reach by the glass door and then they start to shot inside atta me by the corner there and that’s it.”

Duane Moody
“Only you were there, no other security guard?”

Voice of Security Guard
“No other security was in here only me one was in here and some customers was on the side same way too.”

Duane Moody
“What did you do when they came in shooting?”

Voice of Security Guard
“They came in shooting and I grab my gun too and I release it and at start to fire back at them too.

Duane Moody
“Did you hit any of them?”

Voice of Security Guard
“I’m really not too sure.”

Duane Moody
“You did not get shot but one of your colleagues did, a so call Mr. Williams?”

Voice of Security Guard
“Yes sir, Mr. Williams, but I neva know until everything finish.”

Duane Moody
“When did he get shot, was it when the robbers were fleeing?”

Voice of Security Guard
“Well it look like they catch he first then they come inside.

Duane Moody
“Where was he shot sir? Do you know?”

Voice of Security Guard
“I think in his hand and his side.”

Duane Moody
“Were anybody else shot? I understand that a customer or two were shot?”

Voice of Security Guard
“Yes a customer get shot.”

Also wounded in the attempted robbery, were anchor security officer, fifty-three year old Glenford Williams, twenty-six year old taxi driver, Wayne Wallace and a police officer. The thieves came up empty-handed and up to news time no one has been arrested for the incident but police believe they know the perpetrators.
