A National Amateur Beach Soccer League

You may not have heard of it, but a beach soccer competition will begin momentarily and will be hosted primarily in the south and north of the country. It’s part of the F.F.B.’s new strategy to compete as a formidable team in beach soccer. As the Federation’s Technical Director, Philip Marin told the media today, there are six teams that are participating in a national tournament; a national team will then be selected to represent the country in the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship to be held in the U.S. in May of this year.

Philip Marin, Technical Director, F.F.B.

“We have started our national amateur beach soccer league. We have six teams: Dangriga, Seine Bight, Hopkins, Placencia, Belmopan and Corozal. It is a ten-week beach soccer tournament and the first week will be in Hopkins. The second week will be in Seine Bight, the third in Placencia, the fourth in Dangriga and then the semi-finals and the finals will be in Hopkins. We are currently preparing for the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship, which will be in the U.S. in May. So we are running a ten-week tournament. After the tournament is finished, we’ll select fifteen players who will be part of the beach soccer team. They will go through an intense one-month training in the entire month of April and we will take twelve players and three coaching staff to that tournament in May.”
