You Can Help Police to Solve Cummings’ Murder

According to reports, residents of the area where Cummings’ body was found say that they saw a suspicious vehicle in the area after gunshots were heard. Minister Aragon is appealing to persons with information to come forward and assist police with their investigation.

Elodio Aragon Jr., Minister of State Responsible for National Security

“A lot of time people have information out there. They know what was happening, maybe there was an incident before or something that can lead the authorities to be able to deal with the people who have committed this heinous crime. So it is important for the community to come and support and let the authorities get that information that can lead to solving this murder.”

“How do you convince community members to tell me what they know? I think the fear of residents is that ‘Okay I am going to go to the police officers and tell them what I know. And maybe by the next day my neighbors know that I went to the police officers.’ I am saying that they are afraid to go to the police because they might think that people will leak their information.”

Elodio Aragon Jr.

“That is always a fear but I am sure that if they deal with the proper authorities they will be able to pass that information on and then the police can use that information to deal with their cases. Of course, witnesses are always an issue. We have a big problem in Belize City where a lot of the victims live in the same neighborhoods, etc, and the gang situation compounds the problem of people wanting to pass on information. I don’t think that is the big case here in Orange Walk. We are still a tight knit community, people know everybody and I do believe we don’t experience as much as what transpires in Belize City. We don’t want it to become like the city so we really need to do our part as members of the community. I ask anybody if you have that information or something that you know will assist the police to bring these people to justice; I ask you all please pass that information on to the authorities.”
