Belizean Shot in U.S. in Drug Deal Gone Bad

A man believed to be Belizean was shot on Thursday afternoon in Erie City, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.  Investigators suspect that it was an upper-level drug deal gone bad which led to the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected heroin at the scene. One of the men from Chicago was shot in the chest and was in critical, but stable condition. The other man was hit in the foot and was in police custody, facing criminal charges in the incident. Investigators say that a Belizean passport was found in a car at the scene. Today, thirty-five-year-old Charles Baizar was placed in the Erie County Prison on a five hundred thousand dollars bond after he was arraigned on one count of possession with intent to deliver. He was injured in the exchange of gunfire and told detectives that he and three others, including the man shot in the chest had traveled to Erie to sell a kilo of heroin for eighty thousand dollars and met a buyer known to him as Greg. Baizar said he was carrying a bag with the heroin when the unknown driver of the SUV got out and started shooting. Erie police plan to reach out to Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, because one of the wounded men might be wanted on a warrant from the agency.
