Cousins Ulide and Clifton Allen to be Charged for Coney Drive Shootout

Ulide Allen

A pair of cousins is behind bars tonight for a wild shootout on the heavily trafficked Coney Drive in Belize City. On Wednesday afternoon, twenty-one-year-old Ulide Allen beat a hasty retreat amid a shower of bullets during the brazen exchange of gunfire with Belize City police.  During the mid-afternoon shootout, a responding officer was grazed on the left shoulder, while Allen managed to make good his escape by fleeing into a nearby compound occupied by Transparent BPO.  His cousin, Clifton Allen, was arrested on the scene and taken into custody.  It is believed that the pair was on the way to commit an armed robbery when they were being tailed by police on mobile patrol along the Phillip Goldson Highway.  This morning, after several hours of being on the lam, Allen surrendered himself in the company of an attorney and is expected to face a slew of criminal charges.  Tonight, the duo is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned on five counts before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford where they appeared unrepresented.  The cousins were indicted for attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm upon Police Constable Leon Higinio, two counts of aggravated assault upon Sergeant Graciano Briceno and Police Constable Waldemar Veliz.  Additionally, the Allens were charged with one count of wounding upon PC Higinio.
