Minister Faber Expresses Confidence in FM Elrington

Patrick Faber

While we had the minister, we asked him about another statement from cabinet colleague Elrington in an interview with this station. When asked to respond to the P.U.P.’s umpteenth call for his removal, Elrington said that the demand was futile. According to Elrington, people very close to the Prime Minister and in the U.D.P. camp have called for his removal since 2008. According to Faber, that is not the way he sees it.

“As far as I know that is not the case. He may have more information than I do. It is he who is involved. But I will tell you that as far as I am aware while there are points like in the case of all of us, looking at each other. We would say to each other, “boy I think you should have handled it differently’. In my case for instance, there are some instances where Cabinet colleagues would tell me, ‘Well Faber I think you should have done this a little bit differently with the teachers’. This is how we are with each other. That is healthy. That is positive in my view. So we have said that with Minister Elrington when we feel that things should have gone a different way but never to the point of us not expressing full confidence in his ability to lead the Foreign Ministry. I would agree with him that any such call for his resignation or for the Prime Minister to remove him from that portfolio is futile because we have that confidence in him.”
