Jose Mai: “That is nonsense!”
Today, the P.U.P.’s Orange Walk South Area Representative Jose Abelardo Mai took a jab at the Ministry of Agriculture with respect to the concerns of the potatoes farmers. Mai says that the Ministry’s response to the plight of the farmers is nothing short of disgraceful.

“If you close down the agriculture department today, farmers would be better off maybe but they will they will not be affected in a negative way because they are not functioning.”
Hipolito Novelo
“How do you believe that the ministry should react to the farmers’ concerns? I am sure they know about it.”
Jose Abelardo Mai
“If I would be C.E.O., I would send people to the border. I want to see how much potatoes come in. they come in twice a week. Send an extension officer, one who is not corrupt because there are a few who are corrupt. They collect money from farmers. And sure that what is on that permit comes in. If you suspect that something is wrong with the quarantine officers then you put a check on that. But you have to do something. It cannot be happening over and over again. We keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results. That is nonsense. What a disgrace.”
