Major Contraband Bust in San Victor, Corozal

About a week and a half ago, a joint operation between the Police and Customs Departments as well as the Coastguard led to the interception of contrabandistas in canoes transporting uncustomed goods across the border. San Victor village is a popular illegal crossing used by peddlers up north. Over the weekend, Orange Walk and Corozal police teamed up and made another bust inside an abandoned property in the village. ACP Joseph Myvett says that no one was detained in this incident and the loot was handed over to the Customs Department.

“A joint Orange Walk/Corozal operation on Saturday morning in the area of San Victor village in the Corozal District resulted in the seizure of some two hundred and thirty-eight cases of beer, eleven cases of soft drink and ten cases of rum that were found in an abandoned building. No one was found in the area, so those items were retrieved and handed over to the Customs Department at the northern border.”

“Is it believed these items were intended for some function or were it for a black market type sale?”

“At this point we are not able to say.”
