Travellers donates money to Bmp. orphanage

Story Picture
An orphanage for abused and neglected children was today the recipient of monetary donation from a Belize City business house. Marla’s House of Hope, located in Belmopan, was today awarded a lump sum of money from Travellers Limited and a pledge of a further donation every month for the rest of this year. According to company representative Magalie Perdomo, the plight of the home and its caretakers is very important to her family and hopefully other businesses will join them in this cause.

“Unfortunately a lot of people in Belize don’t know about the home and don’t know about these organisations and things that people are trying to do to better society. And that’s why Travellers we’re trying to donate to these organisations in hope that other companies will come along. Two thousand dollars, it’s not a million dollars, but at least it’s a start, and we’ll be giving them two hundred and fifty dollars a month for the year 2002. So we’re trying to cause a ripple effect and have everyone just help out. It’s good cause.”

“I hereby appeal to other businesses out there, you could do likewise. A little money goes a long way, and very copper counts. This money will surely be used to pay salaries, support the kids financial-wise, to let them have a real life, what it is to be happy, let them feel at home. Since they all come from a background of sexual abuse, we want them to feel at home, to feel happy. That’s our main aim and to assist them.”

News 5 understands that while all donations are gratefully accepted, cold hard cash is desperately needed to pay the staff and purchase miscellaneous items for the children. Also on hand for today’s handing over ceremony was Thayne Holder, the daughter of the founder of the orphanage, Marla Holder.
