G.O.B. plays tardy Santa to Bz. City school

Story Picture
Today, to the delight of more than a few parents, most school children were back in the classroom. But for one community pre-school, which has been robbed twice in the past three weeks, this morning was looking pretty bleak in more ways than one. But a couple hours into the day Area Representative and Minister of Education Cordel Hyde showed up at the Catholic Diocesan Pre-school in Belize City bearing gifts. Hyde handed over two fans, a microwave, blender, mixer and a stereo to the school. Principal of the pre-school Tomasa Smith says despite the lack of constant security on the compound, she hopes these new appliances will stay in school.

“We do not have security. We depend on our neighbours for our security. They would call me or come and see me and inform me of what is going on. I know that in the future, they will continue to inform me and look out for the school. But at present, the Bishop is going to see if he could do some kind of security or alarm system for us so we be protective of the items that we have for the children because we have over one hundred children here, daily.”

The value of today’s donation is estimated at nine hundred dollars.
