No Progress in Missing Men’s Case
It’s been one week since forty-eight-year-old Evan Neal has not returned home. The veteran seaman and owner of Mapp Caye went to deliver some groceries for his two workers on the caye last Friday and did not make it back. As we reported, the Belize Coast Guard and police discovered one of his workmen Edinio Humes murdered in a latrine on the caye. A search of the fishing camp also revealed that Neal and his other workman, identified as Anthony Reneau, are missing. Today, when we asked police for an update on that case, they say they have had no breakthrough. They still maintain that the incident is connected to drug wars in the area.
ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City
“For Mr. Evan Neal, up to now we cannot establish who is the second person that was along with Mr. Neal. We have been told a name but it is yet to be confirmed but we are not sure. Yes, the efforts continue. I know that on Wednesday Police was on the island along with Coast Guard. We were combing the two small islands within that vicinity but so far it has proven futile.”

“Sir, you’ve heard the family refute the theory that this incident is related to drugs; are you still looking at it from that angle?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Yes, we still suspect that it about some kind of drug transaction. There are many possibilities and as I had mentioned in the previous interview that there have been many incidents in the immediate area – about three separate incidents for the past two months where different individuals have been chased from that immediate area by different persons who were seen frequenting that area likewise.”
Andrea Polanco
“But you are not connecting those incidents to pirate activities?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“No.”
