M.O.H. Expands NHI Services in Corozal

A similar inauguration was held this morning in San Pedro-Cristo Rey Village. The health centre is expected to benefit some one thousand four hundred residents. The investments in the primary healthcare facilities are part of Belize’s strategic direction towards improving universal access and coverage to health among the most vulnerable populations.  Minister Marin says that the centers will provide preventive and curative services, including maternal and child care, medical consultations and outreach services.

“Here in San Pedro, we wanted to do a catchment area. This is a brand new facility, same as Sarteneja that can house a doctor and a nurse here but a nurse will be located here. I hope that by next week we can have the nurse already coming in full time. The good part about is that we have Patchakan only five minutes away. That is the catchment of the NHI which the doctor can do labs, a lot of things that the NHI is providing.”

“This will be another centre that will help Corozal North. We have an NGO that is an NHI provider here, the Patchakan Presbyterian Clinic. That is an NHI provider that has a catchment area of four thousand persons. We are opening this here, being an NHI as well to cover the rest of Corozal North so we will have a full coverage between Corozal North and Corozal Bay. And as you know we opened up the San Narciso Polyclinic last year and we have it as an NHI where we have a catchment area of four thousand trying to go to six thousand. We will be almost having all of Corozal under NHI.”

Both clinics were funded through a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank.
