Taiwanese Chorus from Houston, Texas Performs in Belize

Today inside the Fort Street Tourism Village, there was a flash mob. Taiwanese Americans from Houston, Texas arrived in the Jewel this morning on a cruise and performed cultural songs and dances as part of a mission to promote their heritage. The group, the Taiwanese Chorus, has been performing for over four decades and today also performed on stage at the Memorial Park to visitors and Taiwanese nationals living in Belize. The group performed in Honduras on Wednesday and from Belize heads to Cozumel where they will do a one-hour presentation on board the ship. Following the brief programme this morning, News Five spoke with Lina Huang and Jack Wu of the Taiwanese Chorus of Houston.

“We are excited to be in Belize, such a beautiful country, beautiful weather and beautiful people. The chorus was formed in 1970 and we’ve been performing throughout Houston and this is the first time we are on a cruise and we are thinking about next step will be travelling across the world. Next step might be Taiwan. Taiwan will be our next destination.”

“We are Taiwanese Americans so our mission is to promote and exchange Taiwanese culture and heritage through musical performances, including the dancing.”
