Junior Minister Elodio Aragon on New ComPol

Elodio Aragon Jr.

Senior cop Chester Williams officially took over as Commissioner of Police today. It came as no surprise that Williams was in line to replace Allen Whylie. Whylie was serving in the position for six years during a period when the number of murders rose to historic records.  After obtaining his degree in law, Williams held several posts within the department: as commander of the south side region of Eastern Division, the Professional Standards Branch and Deputy Commissioner with responsibility for operations. Today, junior minister in the Ministry of National Security, Elodio Aragon Junior lauded Williams saying that a reshuffling within the department takes place with his elevation to the top office.

“I know within the next week or so will be definitely busy because I know with the movement of Chester to the new chief of police post, there are vacancies that will be created. And so you are going to see a change in terms of leadership for the police department and that is what is taking place right now with Chester Williams. We look forward to great work from Chester Williams and he definitely has the support from the ministry, from the government, because we want to see a reduction in crime, we want to see a number of things happen this year.”

“Anything was to what led to that transition to Mister Williams with Mister Whylie stepping out?”

Elodio Aragon Jr.

“Well I think it was just a matter of time. The police department is such that if you look at the history in terms of Commissioners of Police, I mean there is no commissioner, I think, has ever went more than five years, except Mister Whylie now so I think it is a time for a change and that change is Chester William right now.”
