Mediation with Gangs through CYDP

Chester Williams

With the new office comes new responsibilities and that means an end to mediation with gangs; that is, at least for Williams. He told the media today that he will have activist turn politician Dianne Finnegan and Nuri Mohammed work along with the Community Youth Development Programme to mitigate the issue of gang rivalries and promote peace. Both Finnegan and Mohammed have worked with gangs through mitigation.

“As it relates to doing interventions, I will not be engaged in those activities. I will liaison a lot with CYDP, Mister Nuri, Miss Finnegan and see how they can coordinate. What I want to see we do is to work hand in hand with CYDP and other agencies who will be able to assist us in reducing murders. And I would like to see a murder or a homicide reduction unit within the CYDP which will comprise of members of CYDP and police officers, who will work with the different gangs to be able to foster peace among them with a view to minimize tension and make our city more safer.”
