What’s the Fate of San Pedro Officers?

Chester Williams

But while PCs Tyrell Rowley and Samir Medina are expected to be charged criminally with wounding and harm, incoming Commissioner Chester Williams also spoke on the scope of the internal investigation by the Professional Standards Branch. Both constables have been charged disciplinarily for Prejudicial to the Good Order and Discipline of Police Officers. But what happens if they are found guilty of the crime—be it before the police tribunal or the criminal courts?

Chester Williams, Acting ComPol

“If they are convicted criminally, the law does provide that the Commissioner of Police can dismiss you, once you have been convicted of a criminal offense. The nature of the conduct that they are charged with internally—that is an act to the prejudicial to the good order and discipline—is an egregious breach of discipline and so if convicted in the tribunal that too can warrant a dismissal. It is a very serious charge internally.”

Duane Moody

“Any timeline for that internal investigation?”

Chester Williams

“Directives have been given to expedite the trial and to ensure that it is done within the scope of our internal disciplinary procedures and we must be careful in the sense that we cannot get too emotional and move too fast and not comply with the rules and regulations because if we do that and they are convicted and we do not follow the proper procedures then we go right back to square one, they appeal and end up back in the police department.”
