Deputy Mayor and Town Councilor Rescind Resignation from PG Town Council

Deputy Mayor Franklin Polonio and Councilor Kevin Choc are back in the fold after being reinstated to the Punta Gorda Town Council.  This follows their short-lived resignation on Friday when they tendered a joint letter of resignation to Mayor Ashton McKenzie.  Both men ran successfully on the United Democratic Party slate in March 2018 under McKenzie’s leadership, but reportedly fell out of favor with him when the candidate they supported lost in the recent U.D.P. convention in Toledo East.  In the wake of that defeat, the relationship between the mayor and his deputy became strained, reportedly resulting in Polonio and Choc stepping down from the council.  On Saturday, Party Chairman Alberto August met with all seven members of the council at the town hall where they thoroughly ventilated the issues, as well as the internal communication challenge.  An hour and a half later, Deputy Mayor Polonio and Councilor Choc verbally rescinded their resignation which was followed by a written withdrawal earlier today.
