M.O.H. Says If There was Negligence, Family Can Seek Redress

According to Doctor Manzanero, if the investigation reveals some level of negligence on behalf of the hospital’s staff, the culpable person or persons will be held accountable.

On the Phone: Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“If we find that any particular level of responsibility wasn’t adhered to then specific action may be taken. In this specific case, for example, if we feel that there was some issue with a nurse not adhering to proper process and procedures, this can be channeled to the Public Service Commission because as we as Ministry are not necessarily the first to be able to provide disciplinary measures against the nurse or doctor. Those can also be sent to the nursing council where they have a disciplinary committee that can look at it. In terms of doctors, it can also go to the public service commission but it can also go to the Belize Medical Council because they are the ones who give license to doctors. Understand that these two councils are two entities outside of the Ministry of Health that they are the ones responsible for life issue and can also bring disciplinary measures over whoever is found responsible.”
