Medication Shortage? M.O.H. Says That There Are Options Available

A couple months ago, we reported on the growing concerns about certain brands of medication not available in country due to measures implemented by the Ministry of Health in 2018. Brodies was one of the importers that was affected because the products did not meet labeling standards. In recent weeks, reports have been made that certain medications are still unavailable. Today, Doctor Marvin Manzanero told News Five that there ought to be generic options on the market. He says that importers, who are complying with the due process stipulated by M.O.H., shouldn’t have any problems getting their products on the market.

“It’s more than the labeling. I think it is the entire process, not just the label that was wrong it is the fact that they don’t have GMT, CTC, COA, which are requirements we had placed into law July 2017. As we had mentioned, there are importers who have been more than willing to comply and are willing to follow the due process, so I don’t know that it should continue to be a problem. It is a work in progress and the expectation is that people will comply and it is for the best interest of the patient at the end of the day.”

“So, there shouldn’t be any particular shortage as far as you are aware of?”

“I believe that we would have generic options for people, for patients in general. But I don’t know that there would be. Of course, there are medications that you may have been used to getting before that you are probably not going to be get in that same presentation, but there would be options available.”
