Caye Caulker Man is Arraigned on Burglary with Intent to Rape Charge

Windell Humes

Today, twenty-seven-year-old Windell Humes was arraigned on a single charge of burglary with intent to rape when he appeared in court before Magistrate Emmerson Banner.  Humes, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court that he wasn’t the one who was inside the woman’s room. He accused the Caye Caulker police of randomly picking him up for the crime. There was no objection and he was granted bail in the sum of six thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount. He is due back in court on the twenty-eight of February.  The coconut vendor of Caye Caulker was accused of trespassing at Tropical Oasis Hotel on December thirtieth.  A thirty-three-year-old Swiss national reported to police that around two in the morning, she was awakened by a man touching her. The tourist said that she saw the man’s face and clothing because he was flashing a cell-phone light on her. She told police that the man uttered vulgar words to her and she chased him away from the room. While she was on her way to the police station to report the incident, she saw the man wearing the same clothes on the street and that is how she was able to identify him.
