A Different Perspective on Politics and Gangs

Dianne Finnegan

Not only does Finnegan acknowledge meeting with the bosses of both groups prior to her campaign rollout, she says she spoke in the context of helping them to realize their dreams as young men who have been shut out by society.  In responding to Shoman’s social media post, Finnegan was steadfast in her belief that they should be given a chance to reform and become productive citizens in their own right.  That notwithstanding, many are of the opinion that the lines between politicians and criminals have been blurred.

Dianne Finnegan, U.D.P. Lake-I Standard Bearer

“I stand by these guys because I see the greatness in them that the others choose to overlook because they look at their face and see that they aren’t deserving of anything that is good.  They aren’t deserving of second chances or of opportunities. My focus is always capitalizing on the dreams of what was left behind and so let’s build on that.  Let’s continue to carry him at that level that he wanted for Lake Independence.  What are the things that he requested, he asked for.  If I bring anything, if I had anything he would always say, “Miss D, noh worry bout me yoh know.  Just tek care ah my guys, just mek sure that the families…” and then he would point out and he is always tapping into those who are so much in need, you know.  I think that if it is the new year and we’ve got to come with a new attitude towards how we are going to continue to journey along this road called life, it is urgent that we start looking at self.  Stop being so accusing, judgmental.  Stop looking at these guys as if though they are not worthy of life and start putting a plan of action in place that involves and includes them so that they can make society a better place.  If we don’t do that all of us are at risk, all of us become vulnerable.”
