BPM Has Choice Words for PM’s New Year’s Message

Paco Smith

In its lengthy press conference, the BPM did not spare the Government either. Paco Smith says that PM Barrow’s New Year’s message missed the mark when he spoke about the I.C.J.  Disingenuous, nonsensical and myopic are just a few of the choice words used to describe the speech.

Paco Smith, Belize Peace Movement

“In his end of the year message, the Prime Minister made a point to tout as he describes it, and I quote, “his conviction or rather certainty that Belize will comprehensively win or Guatemala will comprehensively lose.” Let me begin by first categorically saying that his statement in and of itself is demonstrative of a myopic perspective which grossly fails to account or legitimate concerns which arise when taking a comprehensive view of the parameters and conditions which characterize this existential matter. In effect, his message was typical, full of platitudes to support the nonsensical singular narrative that is continuously being put forth by the bi-partisan non-divide, which downplays the reality of litigation risk and expects Belizean to place our territorial integrity at the discretion of the presumably learned justices at the ICJ. Simply put, in keeping with the GOB’s referendum campaign, he is being disingenuous. For many who advocate a resounding no vote have demonstrated that Belize has viable options, yet there is no political will demonstrated by our so called leaders to explore them.”
