Belize Peace Movement Calls Out P.U.P.

Bobby Lopez

The Peace Movement also took shots at that the People’s United Party. They called on the Opposition to put forth its party’s position. With three months to go before the referendum, the BPM says it is simply unacceptable that sections of the party has come forward with their position, yet the Leader of the Opposition has failed to say where the P.U.P. stands. They say that the P.U.P. is not blameless and that decisions taken years ago by the party while they were the government is causing challenges to Belize’s position. Both Bobby Lopez and Patrick Rogers called on John Briceño to step up.

Bobby Lopez, PR, Belize Peace Movement

“We must call out the People’s United Party, who was responsible for bringing that Special Agreement and handing it to the U.D.P., who within less than a year signed it. The Special Agreement wasn’t anything really that the U.D.P. put together; that was handed to them and they made sure it was signed by the Foreign Minister and it became a treaty when it was signed. So, we call on Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, as it is called, who forms a part of the Government, that is unacceptable and they have a huge disservice to the country that after ten years they cannot come up with a party position on the I.C.J.  In saying that, we do applaud members of that party who have come out with a resounding no, who were not afraid to meet with the Peace Movement and share that position. So, we called on the People’s United Party that it’s let than three months to go and you cannot come up with a position. It is totally unacceptable and you have done a huge disservice not only to the people who put you there but to the country.”

Patrick Rogers, Belize Peace Movement

“I challenge you, Johnny, are you taking orders from the Foreign Secretary of the UK? Because we know how geo-politics play and we know you are Her Majesty’s loyal Leader of the Opposition. Are you being controlled to say yes so that Her Majesty doesn’t have to pay to settle article 7. Answer that for me please because the country can’t wait indefinitely for the P.U.P. to take a position. Clearly half of its party is saying no but this man can’t let go of saying yes. We need half of the P.U.P. at least to kill this election April tenth if it reaches there. Otherwise, unu know what wah ketch we right? Votes will be bought because dah just wah other election.”
