Glenford Mossiah Shot in Drive-by Near Wax House

Glenford Mossiah

There was another shooting elsewhere in the city. In the south side, the life of Glenford Mossiah came under threat. While a gunman fired as many as sixteen shots, Mossiah was injured, but luckily survived the attack on him at Wax House on East Canal where he was socializing.  The would-be killer exited a vehicle and sprayed a volley of bullets, two of which caught Mossiah. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Moments after the murder of Joseph Babb, gunfire erupted on East Canal in an area of Belize City known as Wax House.  Several men were in the vicinity when a vehicle reportedly emerged on the scene.  Its passenger sprayed as many as sixteen bullets in their direction, hitting Glenford Mossiah in various parts of the body.

Edith Myvett, Common-law Wife of Shooting Victim

“I was coming from my sister from Wagner’s Lane and I was walking on South Street, never knew what happened, never heard any gunshot because I was with my sister and we were hanging out and we had on music so we never heard any gunshot, nothing.  So I tell my kids dehn, just mek we goh home now because da time fu go home and when I reached on the canal side a young lady hollered for me and told me, “Edith, haven’t you heard what happened?”  I said no.  I said, “Tell me what happened.”  She said, “Den Den just get shot.”

In the aftermath of the shooting, many believed that it may have been an act of retaliation for Babb’s killing.  Acting Commissioner Chester Williams spoke on the matter briefly.

“We don’t have any evidence to suggest that the shooting of Mr. Mossiah at Wax House has any connection to Joseph Babb’s murder.  One may want to say that but there is nothing to suggest that that is the case and as it relates to a motive, as I’ve said before, investigators are still out trying to ascertain as much as they can, so we are unable to give a definitive motive at this time.  So I am not going to speculate where that is concerned.”

According to Edith Myvett, the common-law wife of the shooting victim, she was taken to the K.H.M.H. where she saw her husband suffering from multiple injuries.

“My friend come and put me in a vehicle and take me to the hospital and when I reached there he was done already get taken to.  He get two gunshots and then I asked him and he said it was just a drive-by vehicle that passed Wax House and started buss up shot and he possible fi get two shots, one in his shoulder and one in his buttocks that exited through his leg.  But he is okay right now, thank God for that because it could have been worse.  Everybody said that it was over sixteen shots that went off last night.”

Police are yet to make an arrest.  Meanwhile, Glenford Mossiah has since been treated and discharged from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
