Safety Tips for Business Owners This Xmas

Chester Williams

As part of its efforts to mitigate crime and violence during the Christmas Season, the Belize Police Department is offering a free escort service to business owners wishing to deposit large sums of money at the bank.  While safety tips have been shared with downtown shoppers, similar advice is being given to store owners on how to protect themselves and their properties from crime.

Chester Williams, Deputy Commissioner [Operations]

“In terms of the merchants, we try to encourage them to do as much deposits during the day as they can to be able to minimize the amount of cash that they keep inside the store.  And I can also say that through Mr. Mariano, Mr. Gillett and Mr. Moody we are offering free escort for shop owners who want to go to the bank and deposit money.  So if you have a large sum of cash that you want to take to the bank and you do not trust to go to the bank, you can call either Queen Street or Raccoon Street police station and we’ll provide the escort for you to be able to take your money to the bank safely.  And we prefer to do this to prevent you being robbed than for you to be robbed and we try to investigate.  So these are the services that we try to offer to the public with a view to ensure that they remain some semblance of peace and calm during the Christmas holiday.”

The police department’s anti-crime initiative for the Christmas Season extends to January third, 2019.
